We have reached the 5th and final post about the new updates coming for Dynamics 365 and Power Platform. In the last post I wrote about Power Apps and Power Automate.
Quite a lot of updates here are features that were also part of Release wave 1 2024 and are now reaching General availability, but there are also some gems that will be completely new from October 😉
What's coming for Dataverse?
Accelerate value with better email validation
Early access: NA, General availability: October 2024
From October 2024 Microsoft will start trying out smarter data layer functionality on type email columns. This will use AI to validate that the data added to field is actually an email address. This will work for both model-driven and canvas apps.
Currently this is already in preview for model-driven apps and needs to be enabled in the Power Platform admin center. You can read more about the preview functionality from Learn.
Bypass business logic for hassle free migration
Public Preview: May 2024, General availability: October 2024
One of the main things to check before doing any migration (especially large amounts of data migration) is to make sure all plugins/ automations are turned off to avoid starting a lot of processes in the system due to migrations.
Already in public preview, but will move to general availability is the possibility for makers/developers to request to bypass the plugins before migration.
Enable management of plug-ins in Microsoft Copilot Studio
Public Preview: June 2024, General availability: October 2024
Already from June 2024, but generally available in October 2024 it will be possible to manage all copilot extensibilities within the Microsoft Copilot Studio. It will be possible to manage all out of the box and custom plug-ins in the same place and give admins the freedom to control the visibility of different plug-ins to end users.
What's coming for Governance and administration
Delegate admin responsibility with group admin roles
Public Preview: November 2024, General availability: NA
From November 2024 it will get easier to manage the administration of different environments with group admin roles. Making it possible to have certain groups of people be responsible for certain environments. This will lead to faster response time for users and also make sure you don't give full admin access to people who don't need it.
Manage security posture in Power Platform admin center
Public Preview: June 2024, General availability: October 2024
From October 2024 Microsoft is announcing the possibility to manage security posture in Power Platform admin center. Making it possible for admins to monitor, see the insights and also customize security settings directly in the main admin workflows.
Monitor and protect data with Microsoft Purview
Public Preview: November 2023, General availability: October 2024
Around a year since it became possible for Microsoft Dataverse users to use Purview for monitoring, working with policies and compliance, it is now being made generally available for everyone.
When are changes coming?
All changes will be releases throughout October 2024 until March 2025. See an updated timeline on the Release Planner website.
