Pure luck – right time and right place π
My plan for today was to go discover the Olympic park and village. I decided to walk a bit and then take a taxi. I ended up walking to the Ipanema beach and I could clearly see that there was something going on.
Bradesco bank was handing out stuff related to the torch relay and I decided to stick around. There was a lot of people and also with professional cameras so I expected to see something interesting.
After 15 min of waiting it went interesting. Different trucks started coming and finally a guy with a torch. People attacked him immediately to take pictures and at first the torch wasn’t even lit.
After many pictures and people surrounding him, there came many more sponsor trucks until….
Then the torch was set on fire and he started jogging along the Ipanema beach. Here are some pictures and videos:
Walking a bit further I found the Heart of Denmark π It was a booth about Denmark and also a Lego shop π
The drive goes to Barra da Tijuca
After the exciting events on the Ipanema beach I took a taxi to the Olympic park. Or atleast I think I did.
The driver had no clue where to go and was asking everyone on the way. He also made a few circles, so after 45 min of driving we reached next to a shopping mall. Then I told him to stop and I decided to walk from there.
Turned out that the Olympic park was only 15 min walk from there. Lucky me, stupid driver. π
I found my way by following team Venezuela. π On the way I also saw team Japan, people proud to be from Hong Kong, team USA, team Kenya, team Russia, team Poland and possibly some more. π Β And a lot of volunteers and press.
I tried to walk to Olympic village but when the signs ended and the sun was about to kill me, I gave up. π Oh, well..
When I walked back to the shopping mall I found more athletes and then took a taxi back to the Ipanema beach.
Now there wasn’t that many people as before. π
Surprises for volunteers
Yesterday evening, I received an email from the volunteer portal that they have a surprise to all volunteers. They are giving away 1 free ticket to everyone. What? Yeeeee. π
The catch is that I can’t choose the event or time. If my ticket is for a time when I am working then I just have to give it away. π But the thought is still there and it is really cool.
I received my ticket to a handball match between Qatar and France (men), unfortunately I am working on that day….so that sucks, but hopefully someone will be able to use my ticket.
Also I heard from some of the Estonian volunteers that they got tickets to fencing, weightlifting and archery. Exciting!!
Tomorrow is the day. My first day at work. π Can’t wait!!
